It doesn’t matter what you call it. If you believe an indefinable something flows into you and through you and out to heal body or mind or lessen a problem you are welcome to join an ever-increasing number to focus that power on planetary problems.

Can you imagine the power of a hundred, a thousand, a hundred thousand, a million people joining you in receiving and sending that energy out for the same purpose?

I can. It would be world changing. We could become the power source for SEN and even the whole Global Recovery Movement.

By intentionally transmitting peaceful, loving, compassionate energy together we can reset the course of history. Just now our course is set for planetary disaster. The way we are living is not sustainable, in both meanings of that word. Our course cannot continue and it cannot support the life of humans or most of the other creatures we love on this beautiful blue and brown and white ball.

The state we are in when we ask for the flow to come into us and then out is very important. Anger or judgment will not be honoured. They will not change our course but perpetuate our current state. Love, compassion and peace are the habitat of what we seek to send. It is a mood of love, compassion and peace that we must seek. Then the flow will begin, often quietly and barely noticeably but very real.

SEN asks you to use YOUR name for it, and to seek the power you know to flow through you to support our campaigns. Be there and know that another is with you at the time you are doing it and that many others throughout the day will be directing the wonder working flow at the same goal. No matter what time of the day each one does this there will be a unity.

Don’t get caught up in definitions and names that would exclude you from being part of this. It is you we are asking to help. If you know you have the power to bring what is in you to bear on the most serious problem the human race has ever faced, we ask you to do it and realize others like you who use your definitions will be doing the same. The people who come here to read this are already ones who know something is terribly wrong. Many will join us to go beyond the material thinking that has caused the life-carrying capacity of our beautiful mother Earth to begin to fail. They too will direct whatever they know to the saving of the precious existence of life.

Let us now set a strategic target.

Let our strategic target be to send out for a man or woman of immense material power who is part of the greed-driven system that is damaging us all, that he or she will experience an epiphany, a life-changing revelation that causes a complete turnaround in their thinking. It’s ok to focus on a particular name if one comes to your mind, but don’t set out to target one person. Let us trust, that which flows through us knows better than we do who is the one able to receive. Don’t think of someone you are angry at unless you can drop that anger completely and see them as a fellow human who is doing the best they know how, even if we think they are horribly wrong. We are sending the power of love, peace and compassion, which can change the world. — Hugh MacDougall, Australia, SEN Honorary Advisor

Hugh thank you for this. There is Hope.

Dear Hugh.,… I have sorely missed you. My anger has been building and, until now, I was hanging onto it like a mother bear guards her cubs. But, after reading your article, I can begin to feel it slowly ebb a bit and know I have to work at letting go. In Peace and with many, many Blessings, Jeannette

    Dear Hugh,

This is a huge task – but can be done when we pull together as one. This intent reminds me of the ‘flying yogis’ – quantum physics – whereby their group meditation in troubled hot spots change the energy, reducing the crime and / or the violent intent.

What is so difficult is that at ‘soul’ level we are all one. However, our physical manifestations are schizophrenic! On a ‘physical’ level we say, ‘damn him or her’ not realising that this vicious utterance is energy travelling. We do it all the time. So very, very difficult to live in the present moment – to heal ourselves with self-love, let alone sending real loving intent out into the ether.

I try daily, and daily I fail – mostly. Here and there a small success. Self-awareness is truly the hardest task on this earth! Let alone awareness of the Self of others…. :-)

Bless you for your loving heart.

Your strategy is one that few people are skillfull enough to use successfully. It takes dedication and maturity not to mention a certain eloquence with the written word.

I’m not certain that I am up to that kind of task, but I’m going to try to develop a mental exercise program and, with work and will, perhaps rise to the occasion.

Thank you for writing this article and pointing out something that should be obvious, but something that most of us almost have to be hit on the head with a two by four to cause to sink in. You do, indeed, get more flys with honey than you can with vinegar.

Try to stay dry and above water, my friend.

    Jack

  6. I “Dare” To Dream! Love, Peace and Compassion have the power to lift the world above all prejudices. To forgive, is a power that sets us free. Thank you my friend. It’s important for all of us to remember that all have dreams, “When Dreams Die, So Goes Greatness! I “Dare” Dream that a day will come when love wins out over negative forces!

Thank you Hugh for another enlightening post. There will always be hope so long as there are people like you shedding light, love and wisdom in a world that desperately needs it.

Oh People. Hugh knows this wouldn’t exactly flow my way. Most of you can.it seems, envy my personal close relationship with Hugh that goes back more years than he wishes to remember. A friendship I hold close..

No matter what Hugh may say, believe or disseminate. You can vouch for one thing.
Hugh’s honesty, and sincerity. That he and I are, so often, diametrically opposed philosophically doesn’t diminish my respect for him personally, or his philosophies either. Tom Edgar

What the capitalist system wants is more—more wealth, more freedom to do whatever it wishes. This has always been its instinct, unless government intervened to stop it. The objective now is to destroy any remaining forms of government interference, except of course for business subsidies and protections. Many elected representatives are implicitly enlisted in the cause.

I really like how the Estonians got their Country back, it was called the Singing Revolution. We need to do something, band together in unison and get the Government back to the WE THE PEOPLE. Only then can we change the laws and rules around to start working for all of us.

I had left this quote on a thread at Care2. People are feeling so powerless and I watched that video and thought, that is a good thing, singing. Is positive, it is a good way to unite people, it raises the vibrational level, it is non violent, it can be fun, and yet we can tap into the power as you say.

Thanks Hugh for your input on here.

  10. Suzie says:

Gotta love your optimism mate. Whenever people power has been tapped it has been pretty awesome and will be again!

Dear Hugh, let me first applause you for an excellent presentation of the modern society, where the economic and political elites are increasing their domination of society and exploitation of nature. It was a unique way of seeing it: uncomplicated and straight to the point. I quite agree with the content, although I, as a supporter of the ecofeminist perspective, normally call such an unhealthy society for “patriarchy.” I have elsewhere defined patriarch

Thus I will not add any explanation here, moreover yours is excellent.

Also when it comes to solutions, I agree with you. However, please allow me to make some additional comments about the philosophy and techniques of the Gandhian resistance movement, because they used more than light and peace and compassion. They used what Gandhi called “Satyagraha”. This is Gandhi’s own definition of it: “Truth (satya) implies love, and firmness (agraha) engenders and therefore serves as a synonym for force. I thus began to call the Indian movement ‘Satyagraha’; that is to say, the force, which is born of truth and love or nonviolence.” Mohandas K. Gandhi. (from Richard Attenborough, “The Words of Gandhi” 1982.)

Thus, Satyagraha is a method of direct social action, based upon principles of courage, nonviolence, love, and truth. It relates to civil disobedience, done without violence, since no lasting good things can come from violence. In Satyagraha, non-cooperation is not an aim in itself; it is a means to secure the cooperation of the opponent. Resistance is also not a way of punishing the opponent; it is an attempt to transform the relationship by reaching the opponents heart, making him realize that in the satyagrahi (member of the Satyagraha) he has a friend. In this method, the way a person behaves is more important than what he or she achieves. Because, how a person behaves, determines the results. It is this kind of forceful love that the Indians used to fight for India’s independence from British colonialism and to bring about social change.

Most of you may know the famous Chipko movement. It is mainly a women’s movement, which started in the Himalayas. In traditional Indian forest societies it is women who organize food for the family. They use produce from the forests in all aspects of their lives. However, increasingly companies were felling the trees in order to gain quick economic profit from timber. This caused deforestation and devastating floods. The women then took action and protected the trees with their bodies by hugging them. In this way the greedy axe men could not cut the trees down, without killing the women. The movement has been quite successful in their endeavor.

Chipko is historically, philosophically, and organizationally an extension of the Gandhian Satyagraha. Chipko has used various means to get out their message. They have taken confrontational actions at several occasions. Their main methods include demonstrations, road blockades, hunger strikes, foot-marches, and hugging trees. They also use communication like folk poetry, folk songs, and ancient religious texts. They have been writing articles in newspapers and magazines, and have participated in international conferences. According to a famous Gandhian scholar and one of Chipko’s founders, Sunderlal Bahuguna, the state uses two weapons: fear and greed. Chipko’s main task is therefore to make people fearless and greedless. These are alternative weapons. If people fight fear with fear, they will create more terror. The winner will need an ever bigger army to maintain the victory. Similarly, people become greedier by the promise of rewards. They cannot find a limit. They will always ask for more. Hence, fighting devilish weapons require divine weapons. Therefore, when the opponent becomes fearless, he is elevated from inside and becomes noble.

Thus, in this perspective we need to be dedicated to nonviolence, focus on being truthful, and create inner courage because with those tools we have the power to refuse to cooperate with patriarchy. For us to gain this kind of power requires spiritual development, because spirituality relates to empowerment. Kindly let me explain how this works by adapting the writings of ecofeminist Karen Warren:

If we see power as the ability to mobilize resources to achieve self-determined ends, then power is not intrinsically positive or negative. Ecofeminists see power as morally illegitimate when used to generate or maintain unjustified relationships of domination and subordination. Patriarchy therefore uses power illegitimately. Oppositely if power is used legitimately, it does not reproduce unjustified domination. Use of power in violent and aggressive manners is resourcelessness. People turn to violence when they feel powerless. Pacifists find that there are always alternatives to the use of violence. Spirituality provides the basis for such non-violent actions. Hence, ecofeminist spiritual practices refuse “to dismantle the master’s house with the master’s tools.” Nevertheless, a commitment to non-violence does not remove one’s anger. Anger is a moral emotion, which gives us the important message that we have been unfairly treated. If we do not feel or express anger, when it is in our best interest to do so, we fail to recognize that we deserve better. Thus, appropriate use of anger is the root of an ecofeminist conception of non-violence. It involves the merging of rage with compassion. This dual nature gives non-violence a particular strength. It offers respect and concern, together with defiance and non-cooperation. Hence, there is rage towards the patriarchy and their destructive use of power. There is also compassion, directed towards their victims. Rage alone will drain a person, which leads to resourcelessness, violence, and destruction. Compassion alone will suffocate good energy and weaken actions. However, when one combines rage and compassion “the revolution is lived every day.”

Dear Readers of SEN, It is with deep sadness that I write to tell you that my dear brother Hugh will no longer be calling us to actions with his gift of words, from the heart, or with his pen. He has slipped away peacefully. Will you join me in honouring his memory by heeding his call, in your own personal way. Sincerely, Emily
