Independence Day for Earth
When I had posted an article I saw on Treehugger.com to the Care2 News Network, it was with the intention to share the message of the Brazilian Rainforest and it’s looming destruction. I thought about how I would share this message with my friends, and decided what better way than to share a wish of freedom and independence for all on the celebration of the US 4th of July holiday. The wheels were set in motion, my words in that original message, as they do now, flowed from my heart:
Dear Friends,
Though today is a celebration of Freedom and Independence in the U.S., everyday is the fight for the freedom to live on earth. Destruction, devastation, natural beauty worldwide is disappearing at alarming rates ~ this we must all continue to act together to put an end to.
With knowledge, we are strong; uniting in action, sharing the information with others, we grow stronger. Please note, comment and share this article and spread the word ~ we will, together, all make a difference in achieving our goals of a sustainable world for all life.

Plans for increased offshore drilling despite the lessons of the Gulf Disaster. Thousands of new uranium mining permits are being considered even though the Park Service has reported that uranium mining is already leaching radioactive waste into the Grand Canyon watershed, making it too lethal to drink or swim in. The rush to mine uranium a result of tens of billions in subsidies to for-profit corporations to build nuclear plants. Brazil considering a doubling of the rate of Amazon rainforest destruction. If only our world leaders were Lakota!
I totally agree with you Gregory. I love the Lakota Instructions for Living. And to think the Europeans and their descendants that “founded” this country called the Native Americans uncivilized.

The oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico has cost BP a total of $3.12bn to date, the company says, up $500m from last week.
All the money in the world is not going to bring back the creatures killed in this incident and it is only one of many.
Yes, Gregory, it seems humans have taken leave of our senses. Greed has become the norm and we will all suffer for the wealth to the greedy. There should be no oil drilling in our oceans, seas, or even the Gulf of Mexico. Kill the oceans, and mankind cannot live. Maybe the Mayan calendar is correct; we are destroying ourselves by allowing the greedy in this world destroy the only place we have to live. We need to have alternative energy sources NOW, it’s already nearly too late. We need to stop using oil altogether. We can go back to glass instead of plastic, to metals instead of plastic (which uses much of the petroleum being drilled). At least glass and metal don’t destroy our underground water and are recyclable. We need to use our heads and stop the greedy companies from taking over and destroying this planet provided for ALL of us, not just the greedy ones. They are forgetting that they are part of the human race (?) and their fate will be the same as ours, but they will leave all their gathered wealth behind. The American Natives showed much respect for this planet, we need to gain that same respect, NOW, before it is too late.

We must remember that our “leaders” are elected and we must instruct them, daily if necessary, to make a better future for all of us. Advise them of your ability to influence those around you to make a better choice in their own daily lives and remind them of their ability to do the same. Please use your time, energy, and resources to contact your elected officials and encourage others to do so as well.

Earth is the sustenance of our life. But with so many absorbed in their money, material possessions and technology, they are blinded to the devastation of our planet that happens every second of every minute of every day. If we do not unite and start doing what we can to protect the earth and all its creatures we shall destroy ourselves quickly and violently with nothing left to show any of us or this planet even existed

Yes, we are all destroying Earth, everyday, one way or another. We as each individual will have to do our part, before it’ s too late.
Do we have to lose all our wildlife, all our flora before we wake up to the fact that this planet cannot sustain the raping it has been enduring for far too long now. People are crying everywhere for the daily death of magnificent creatures, some to the point the species are gone for ever. We simply cannot continue to depend on oil & derivitives, especially at the expense of our land and her inhabitents.
TO LOVE THE ANIMALS WE SHARE OUR WORLD WITH IS A GREAT GIFT.
TO ENSURE THEM WELL BEING, AND AN EQUAL SPACE ON EARTH, IS JUST.

Independence Day for Earth is such a great idea. it could be set for the day after Earth Hour. I love it!
Great idea, Suzanne. We have to keep trying to bring through that most important awareness that “money cannot be eaten”. So much of what is being lost can never be replaced and only once it is gone will some then recognize its value.
